Individual Membership

The Cyprus Economic Society invites membership from individuals that are interested in its activities and share in its charter. All citizens of the Republic of Cyprus are entitled to membership.

Members are entitled to participate in all of the Society’s activities and to receive all research material that is made available. Members receive exclusive invitations to closed events. These include the discussion forums, workshops and seminars that are organised from time to time.

Get involved in the organisation of the Society, participate in the Annual General Meetings, and vote for the Board in the bi-annual elections.

The membership fee is €20 per year. All income received through membership fees and donations are used exclusively for the purpose of funding the Society’s activities.

Application for membership

For membership to The Cyprus Economic Society a membership application is required. Communication preferences can be opted in. We will be contacting you according to your specified preferences and will always treat your personal details confidentially and never share them with other organisations without your consent.

The Cyprus Economic Society values the trust you place in us when you join as member, communicate with us, attend our events, and use our website. References in this Privacy Policy to “Cyprus Economic Society” “we”, “us”, “our” are references to the ‘Cyprus Economic Society’ This Privacy Policy describes our collection, use, disclosure and protection of your personal information.

Personal information we collect about you: We receive and store personal information which you voluntarily enter on our websites, or voluntarily provide by mail, phone, email, or any other way to us including your name; company name; affiliations; address; telephone number; email address; account log-in information where applicable; and personal information in connection with online surveys, webcasts, seminars, conferences and other information.

How we use personal information: We may use your personal information to perform the services included in your membership to the Cyprus Economic Society. This includes mailing invitations for events we organise; events of affiliated organisations that we decide to promote to the benefit of our membership; notifications about pertinent developments and programme changes; circulation of printed material such as presentations and articles; and enabling you to post messages to our bulletin boards and blogs as applicable.

Legal Justifications for processing your personal information: In order to lawfully process the personal information described above we rely on one or more of the following justifications:

  • Performance of a contract: The use of your personal information is necessary for the performance of a contract services. If we do not process your personal information, then we will not be able to provide our services such as membership services.
  • Legitimate business purposes: We may use your information for our legitimate interests, such as to send you emails and newsletters, to improve and promote our products and services, to improve the content of our website and to prevent fraud.

  • Our legal obligations: In some occasions we use personal information to comply with the legal and regulatory obligations we are subject to.
  • Initiation, establishment, exercise or defense of in court and out of court legal procedures.

How we share your personal information: We do not share your information with third parties except in the case of third-party service providers that perform functions on our behalf, including but not limited to web site hosting; web site maintenance; processing membership requests; online payment service providers; and search engine providers. We may also use or disclose your personal information if required to do so by law. We may disclose information that does not identify you to third parties in a manner we dim appropriate. Any third party that receives personal information from us, will be contractually bound to provide at least the same level of protection, confidentiality and security as we describe in this Privacy Policy.

How we secure your personal information: Whilst we cannot guarantee complete security, we do maintain physical, electronic and administrative procedures to safeguard the confidentiality of your personal information. This includes the use of encryption, firewalls, limited access and other controls where appropriate.

How long do we keep your personal information: We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is required for the fulfillment of the purposes of processing. We determine the appropriate retention period by considering the volume, nature and sensitivity of the personal information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorised use, loss or disclosure of your personal information, the purposes of processing and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, and the applicable legal requirements.

Your rights: In certain instances, you may have the right to:

  • request a copy of your personal information held by us;
  • request the correction and/or deletion of your personal information, or restrict or object to the processing of your personal information;
  • withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal information at any time, where processing is based on having your consent;
  • request to obtain and reuse your personal information in a format that is structured and commonly used. You may also request by us to transmit such information to other organisations;
  • complain to the Office of the Commissioner for Data Protection in cases where you believe that your data protection rights are being violated.
